For all you Healers out there I was wondering the best healing add ons or Macro's people use? I have been picking up healing pcs here and there as my off spec and have compiled enough of a collection to be dangerous. Just looking for some advice.

Waldo, I must have made a mistake copying your healing macro the other night, by chance could you post it or send me a message in game so I can correct my error.

Thanks

Hi Bengal

As you asked, instead of putting my Holy Light spell on my action bar, I have the following macro:

#showtooltip
#show Holy Light
/cast [target=mouseover, help] Holy Light; [target=focus, exists] Holy Light; [help] Holy Light

The first 2 lines just make the button look right. The third line gives me my main heal: whoever my mouse pointer is over gets my Holy Light. You don't actually mouse over the tank's 3D avatar (although that would work), but just put your mouse over the tank's party portrait or raid frame. Throwing a heal on someone else is just a twitch of the wrist to point at another name and hit the key.

Next bit: If my mouse isn't over any friendly players, then the heal goes to my focus. I set my focus to my tank at the beginning of the raid. Finally, if I have no focus and my mouse isn't over a character, then my heal would go to my actual target, so long as it's friendly.

I use the same mouseover macro for FoL, and simplified versions for Holy Shock and Cleanse.

All this leaves me free to target something other than my healing target during a fight. That usually ends up being a mix of the boss (for Judgements) or my Beacon of Light target.

Healing AddOns? Not a one.

Quick addendum to my post (before Pim gets a hold of this!)

Each of the conditions above should have a "nodead" option added. That way your heals will never land on Deadsong.

And I'm aware there's a way to logically "or" the three conditions above so you only have to type "Holy Light" once instead of three times, but that's for programming aesthetics only.

Speaking of programming aesthetics, #show Holy Light is also superfluous since you included #showtooltip and Holy Light is the only possible outcome.

#showtooltip
/cast [target=mouseover,help,nodead][target=focus,help,nodead][help,nodead] Holy Light

Another option you might like to try out is the Clique addon. Using Clique, I've bound shift-click and shift-right click to heals, and also ctrl-click and ctrl-right click to dispels.

These work very similarly to Waldokind's method, in that you point the mouse over the raid frame of the person you wish to affect, then either push a button or click (or both), and poof your spell is cast.

You could also use both. I'm picturing it now: mouse over raid member JoeSchmoe, hit action button 3 for Flash of Light; mouse over raid member JillSchmill, ctrl-click for Cleanse.

On the other hand, sticking to one method might be easier on the brain. I suppose it would depend on how many spells you typically use, and how many you've bound to keys.

Rather than bind keys directly to spells, I've bound keys to action bar buttons, that way I can still see them, and they also change whenever I switch talent specs. I imagine this is what you multi-talented paladins also do.

The way I have the macro coded, if I have no target, no mouseover, and no focus (say, at the bank) then the macro will do nothing. What's the icon for "do nothing"? Yes, a large red question mark. The #show directive stops that ugliness from happening.

And I have a vague memory that the "exists" qualifier was significant when using target=focus, but I'm not sure about that now.

Did I say I bind my spells directly to buttons? Didn't mean to. All my macros are placed on the action bar with default key bindings.

I stand corrected! I am getting slow in my old age.
